data_directory = 'E:/PostgreSQL DATA/data' # use data in another directory

#hba_file = 'ConfigDir/pg_hba.conf' # host-based authentication file
# (change requires restart)
#ident_file = 'ConfigDir/pg_ident.conf' # ident configuration file
# (change requires restart)

# If external_pid_file is not explicitly set, no extra PID file is written.
#external_pid_file = '(none)' # write an extra PID file
# (change requires restart)

Pasted the whole FILE locations paragraph from the conf file.

Try:

data_directory = 'E:\PostgreSQL DATA\data' # use data in another directory

Tried that, still Timed out waiting for server startup on Event Viewer.

I had moved the whole postgreSQL folder to the other directory before, then I moved back everything but the data folder. So I think that might have messed it all up. Should I just put everything including base folder back there and try if it works then?

It can't hurt - it will certainly make sure everything you need is together.

OK, I have moved everything back to the original partition and it still times out during server startup.. I guess it can't find the folder where PostgreSQL is. I have moved it to other partition and then moved it back here, how can I fix this? After that when we get this working I guess just moving the base folder will be easy :)

Also in even viewer there is some new error for PostgreSQL it says: "2012-07-26 12:28:43 GMT FATAL: could not create lock file "postmaster.pid": Permission denied"

Right click the folder, click Properties. Go to the Security tab, click Add, Advanced then Find Now. Find postgres in the list below click on it and click OK. Click on postgres in the top portion and give postgres full control over the directory and that should fix that error for you at least.

Moved the base folder to the other partition now. And tried everything in the conf file two // one / two \\ one \ nothing worked. Still times out every time I try to start the PostgreSQL.

Most of the times the error was the directory doesn't exist but once it showed this too:

"2012-07-26 15:00:58 GMT FATAL: "E:/PostgreSQL DATA/data" is not a valid data directory
2012-07-26 15:00:58 GMT DETAIL: File "E:/PostgreSQL DATA/data/PG_VERSION" is missing."

But most of the time it said it doesn't exist

Honestly it might be easier to try the tablespace approach. That really does work and it'll probably take less time than you've already spent on this . . .
