You chose it when you installed and there is no way to recover.

The easiest method is to configure PostgreSQL to not require a password.

Start->Programs->PostgreSQL->Configuration FIles->Edit pg_hba.conf

At the bottom of this file there are two lines that end in 'md5'. Change 'md5' to 'trust' then File->Save

Then go Start->Programs->PostgreSQL->Reload configurations

Now you can leave the password field blank :)

I lost my password when I installed PT3 to a portable running Vista. I entered a more complicated password as prompted during the install. I tried to edit the pg_hba.conf file as suggested but I keep getting the error message:

"Cannot Create.............(file)....make sure that the path and file name are correct""

anyone else have this problem?
should I just rip it out and reinstall?

It sounds like a failed installation. More specifically, PostgreSQL failed to initialize the database cluster.

Uninstall (if you can) then try reinstalling. Before reinstalling go Start->Run, 'cmd' OK. Then type "net user postgres /delete" at the command prompt to delete the old service account.

I seem to have a double postgreSQL problem. I have a PT2 db that I converted to postgreSQL in anticipation of converting it to PT3. However, when installing PT3 1st I either entered the wrong postgreSQL password; then used the defaults after a second install of PT3. When I look to convert PT2 to PT3, it tells me no PT database exists. Would following instructions to remove passwords let PT3 be able to find my original DB? My tech support post didn't address that possibility so I'm posting here.

I REALLY WANT to convert to PT3

Oh, I also tried export hh to file and pt3 manual import but only covers ring and I'm primarily a tournament player.

In PT2 Utilities -> Export HHs to a File, then change to the tournamen tab along the top and you can export your tournament histories and summaries.

And once you remove password authentication from postgresql you should be able to log in to any postgresql process on the machine without need for a password.

Yet when I ask PT3 to convert PT2 DB, it tells me none can be found. I posted problem in tech support area as well. He're the conversation so far,

viewtopic.php?f=16&t=5763

although not much new as to how I can get the db recognized

I'm not a postgres expert, but i wonder if the different installs/versions of postgres are managing different DBs, so that 8.2 knows about PT2 DBs and 8.3 knows about PT3 DBs but not PT2 DBs, so when PT3 asks 8.3 about DBs it doesn't list any 8.2 DBs?

Yes, white rider. That is exactly the problem, except they both run on postgreSQL 8.3 because I never had postgreSQL dbs before PT3 beta. I installed it, then converted the PT2 Access db to postgreSQL in anticipation of PT3s final release. It has happened, and I cannot get 3 to recognize 2. I must have entered the wrong info when creating the OFFICIAL PT3 and hence no recognition of prior db. I deactivated passwords to no avail.

Sorry, I'm not going to be a lot of use to you I'm afraid, hopefully a postgres expert will help.
Did you get PT2 working properly with the postgres databases?
