Click Start --> My Computer --> C: --> Program Files, and right click on PostgreSQL. Click Properties and on the Security tab click Add, in the window that appears click Advanced, then click Find Now. Find the postgres user in the list and click Ok twice. Then choose postgres in the list at the top and check the Full Control box at the bottom. Click OK. Restart your computer, then everything should work.

The pgInstaller and One Click installer make incompatible databases. When you set the pgInstaller to use a new folder, it created an entirely new database - which would have been fine, except you wouldn't have had any of your old data.

The data directory also lost the proper permissions in the change, which is what we reset with the last step.

You should not reinstall PostgreSQL unless absolutely necessary, and situations like this should make it clear why.

hi my PT3 is doing the same thing - Unable to connect to PostgreSQL database: PT3_Reason: Unable to login to database. Reason: could not connect to server: Connection refused (0x0000274D/10061) Is the server running on host " " and accepting TCP/IP connections on port 5432?
Unable to connect to PostgreSQL database: PT3_2010_10_05_204729

I have tried restarting the service etc but no luck. I have copied the lines from event viewer as you suggested, please advise?

it is probably linked to the Trojans that I had on my PC on Saturday, I have had them removed by an IT company, but I guess PT3 SQL has been damaged?

It's possible that the removal of those files caused problems - please follow our PostgreSQL reinstallation guide on our documentation page as that will likely fix things for you.

hi,

I have followed the instructions to re-install my SQL but I am still having problems. When I double click the program icon a 'Configure PostgreSQL' window appears. Note when i uninstalled the SQL i did not delete the folder in program files - as I wanted to keep my database.

when i tick the database already exists, I get the same error message.

I have checked my windows firewall (turned it off briefly) but still no luck. I have also checked anti virus etc...

Is there anything else I can try? the document you sent me the link for just says to contact support?

One thing to try first - try following this tutorial first and see if it will connect then, if it's a password issue, that will get you in.

Thanks again - I have tried to follow these instructions, but when i right click on the file it only shows 'run as' as an option, when i select it the 'run as' window appears, no document opens to allow me to change the 'md5' to 'trust' - it just has boxes to enter my password/user name etc and then doesnt load.

In Windows XP you should just be able to open and edit the file directly, the running in administrator is for Vista and Win7.
