Did you have hidden files and folders visible when looking for postmaster.pid?
I assume you've tried a reboot too?
Vista or XP?

Hi again,

The error message I receive when trying to start the PostGRESQL and even when starting my computer is:

"The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142)."

As to the thread above I would search for postmaster.pid and I can't find the file. I have Avast virus protection and Comodo Firewall. Alas are they stopping postmaster.pid to be installed? Should I reinstall PT3 with those applications disabled?

Try disabling them temporarily and starting the postgres service.

The postmaster.pid is created to show that postgres is running, so if it exists then postgres won't start [again], so you need to remove that file if it exists. If it doesn't exist then it is a different issue.
