You should be able to use the same installation of postgres. It is a database service that any applications can use.
What version of postgres do you have installed? (Start -> Programs -> PostgreSQL X.Y; what is X.Y?)

Since you already have postgres installed, you can install PT3 WITHOUTthe postgres installer (the smaller download file).

If you already have postgres installed by another application, you will need to create the "postgres" user which PT3 needs.
For instance, if you already have the Elephant software from pokerstrategy.com.

You'll need to know what the username that Elephant created is, first - here I assume it's "elephant", but if it's not you should replace it.

Open the postgres command line: Start -> Programs -> PostgreSQL -> Command Prompt
..and enter:
Code: Select all
createuser -s -d -r -U elephant -W postgres

where -U elephant is the username that elephant created.
This will create the "postgres" user which should enable PT3 to connect to postgres.
