unable to connect to database

Postby pajak » Sun Mar 01, 2009 4:27 pm

i have pt3, everything is going well.
I wanted to change my hard drive so i bought a new one.
Then i installed pt3 on a new hard drive. On my old hard drive i have everything i had. Pt3 is working there.
First time when i installed pt3 on a new hard drive installation was succesfull besides i had clean database. I had copy database from my old postre from old hard drive to a new one, but now it is written that it is unable to connect to database when i am starting pt3.
And my question is how to make my pt3 working good on my new hard drive and my old database(it is postresql 8.3)??? Step by step.

Do you have your operating system installed on the new drive now, or are you still running from the old one?

Are you keeping the old hard drive, or do you need to move your database to the new one?

If you need to move it, the best way would be to backup the database from the old drive (if you still have postgres installed there) then restore it once you have postgres installed on the new one. See the Database / Postgres FAQ for info on backing up and restoring DBs.
You would probably be able to copy the postgres folders across to your new drive and then relink them as you reinstall if you follow the manual install directions in this post: How to reinstall Postgres.

Yes i have system on my new hard drive, and my computer is working now on this system from a new hard drive. i will not keep the old hard drive. When i manage my problem with pt3 on new hard drive i will unplugged old hard drive. I have still pt3 and posgtres on my old drive, and it is working when i unplugged new hard drive.

Are you certain you have PostgreSQL installed and running on the system? Press ctrl+alt+del and click Task manager, go to the processes tab and look: are there any postgres processes running?

You need PostgreSQL installed for PT3 to work. If you download the Full installation version of PT3 (from our download page) it includes PostgreSQL's installer for you.

You can get PostgreSQL directly from PostgreSQL's website. You should get the latest version which I believe is 8.3.6.
