Improve Db performance, clustering, defrag ...

Hi,

I ran across the thread of, " how can i improve postgreSQL performance?' in this new PT3 forum, go to http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showt ... 150&page=2

This PT3 forum thread takes you to PT2 archived forum thread of, "Howto: Defrag PT", go to archives/PT2/viewtopic.php?t=15545&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

Some quick questions I ask to be helped with ...

1. I have Post v8.2.3, WinXP, PT 2.16.03D

2. I needed to install PT, PAHud, Post and all gaming software on a different drive than 'C:\" ... in this case, the "F:\" drive

Question:
1. If I run this cluster defrag procedure now, will it mess me up when go to PT3?

If such process will not mess up the dbases for use with PT3, then ...

Background:
A. I attempted several times, several ways to use the "find how much space a dbase table/index" is taking up, as a test for someone not familiar with DOS, me. I did have enuff sense to change "c:\" to "f"\"

B. After I hit Enter I get a twofold message,
10 lines of "Warning: extra command line-argument" and 1 line, the final line of, "Fatal: Database "Ring13-061126-061230 -f select" does not exist"

I tried the same entry with the original "-c" instruction and still got the same errors.

C. I even tried the create a 'bat' file with just copying the statements into Notepad mentioned in the "Defrag" thread with no success when hitting Enter in the 'f:\' drive root directory.

Question:
2. Any ideas? Suggestions? where I'm going wrong?

3. Is the dbase file name too long for DOS ... I seem to remember something about less than equal to 8 characters?
3.a: if I need to shorten that dbase file name to 8 or less characters ... is there any easy way to just change the dbase file name within PT2 or do I need to create a new Post dbase and import the 'old' dbase into it?
