unable to connect to database

Hello,
when i start PT§ i got the following error:

PokerTracker was unable to connect to any PostgreSQL databases.
Please make sure you have PostgreSQL running

When i close the error, PT3 starts but the database is empty.

Yesterday PT3 worked fine and "over night" I got this problem.

What can i do?

I restarted the computer and the database was found and PT3 is now working well. I wonder...

It was most likely due to a recent Vista update; you shouldn't have any further problems. But if you do, please let us know and we'll be glad to help you troublehshoot the issue further.

i have had pt3 for over a year and i have been unable to ever get it working along with the postgresql i have emailed poker tracker support and they sent me this email telling me to uninstall and start over everything agian it still doesnt work i dont know if im just computer illeterate which i am usaully able to figure out anything with detailed directions or my program is ruined please help me fix this problem and let me know what am i doing wrong i dont know the password for postgress and its not that either its all just messed up and it pisses me off i even tried to download hold em manager and same problem with postgress how do i get the program to work

Were you able to follow the directions to fully uninstall postgres? You need to do this carefully and follow every step - if you get any errors at any point please let us know.
How to reinstall Postgres

The default password is dbpass.
If that doesn't work, you can remove the need for postgres passwords: How To: Remove PostgreSQL Password

If you still can't get it working please schedule a remote assistance session where someone can logon to your computer with you and directly troubleshoot/resolve the issue.

I have decided to migrate my database to FreeBSD server - because the initial tests indicated that running the pgsql on a separate server increases performance. It is true: the lookups are faster but if I click the Refresh button I sometimes get the error "Unable to connect to database: <db_name>" PostgreSQL version:8.4.4 OS: FreeBSD 8.1-STABLE, hardware: CPU: Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU [email protected] (1676.70-MHz 686-class CPU), 2GB RAM
Solution: As it turned out FreeBSD pgsql has the default setting for max_connections set to 10, and PT uses more than this so I got it up to 30 and it works like a charm. Also set the shared_buffers to 8MB from the default 800kB.
Question: how many "max_connections" and "shared_buffers" PT3 requires to avoid any future problems.

I have max_connections at 100 and I've never had a problem. As to the shared_buffers, please see the Performance Tuning: PostgreSQL.
