I'm uselss and need help with postgreSQL

I've been running PT2 for a long time. i've just installed PT3. It's asked me for server, port, username and password for postgreSQL. Where do I find these things? Thanks.

Do you already have postgres installed?

I assume so, beacuse the ppo-up I get when I open PT3 is for existing postgreSLQ rather than installing it new, and when I search my system for postgreSQL some files come up (which I don't understand).

Click Start --> Programs, do you see an entry for PostgreSQL 8.3 (or 8.4)? If so, click in there and click Start Service and then try putting in the defaults into PT3 (server = localhost, port = 5432, user = postgres, password = dbpass) and see if it connects for you.

No, when I click Start --> Programs, there is no entry for PostgreSQL 8.3 (or 8.4). Does that mean I have to install it? Some files still show up on my computer if I search for PostgreSLQ, FWIW. I'm sorry I'm useless about this and I appreciate your help.

It sounds like you don't have PostgreSQL installed. Please download, unzip and run the installer from this package and that should install PostgreSQL for you.

It's up and running - thanks for your patience. Just one last question - is there any way to get my data from PT2 into PT3? Thanks.

Yes, the easiest way is to export your hands from PT2 (Utilities --> Export Hand History ...) then reimport them into PT3. This will get all of your data unless you have manually entered tournament summaries.
