Merging Old PT SQL dabases

Hi,

I remember seeing a long post on this before, but I can't seem to find it now. I have some old SQL databases from previous PT3 installs. Since then, I've reformatted, but I've kept the postgre folders and data files. If I remember correctly, it's not trivial to merge them back in to the current install. Does anyone know how I can go about that? Thanks!

Oh, also some of these are older versions of postgre (ie 8.0 I think)

What you'd want to do is install whatever the postgres version is for each data directory one at a time (start with the earliest version number so you don't lose track!). You can find the postgres version of the directory by opening the PG_VERSION file in notepad (it'll say something like 7.4, 8.0, 8.1, etc.). Install PostgreSQL using the pgInstaller to that directory while unchecking initialize database cluster (I'm not sure if it's called that in the 7.4 installer, it is in the 8.x installers). Once it's installed, link it up to PT3 Beta 30.7. Backup the database using File --> Backup. Uninstall PostgreSQL, install the next version. Rinse and repeat until you've backed up every database.

Then install the actual version of PostgreSQL you want, and restore all of the databases from backup. Then you'll have them all in PT3 in the same PostgreSQL version.

Ok, thanks. I also have some old PT2 mdb databases, but I don't have PT2 anymore. Any advice there? I reinstalled it with a product ID of [removed]. Can you PM me an activation for it?

Ok, I finally found an install copy of v8.0 and got it to link up. The final trick was changing the password permissions from md5 to trust. Now I see 1 PT3 DB, and a bunch of PTPGSQL1, PTPGSQL2, etc databases. Am I right in thinking that those are the old postgre databases for PT2? Thanks again for the help.

"PT3 DB" is a PT3 database, but I'm not familiar with the PTP databases so they could be your PT2 databases - if you need help getting PT2 set up again you'll do better to post in the PT2 section.
