Upgraded to postgreSQL 8.4; PT3 cannot connect to database

Did you make a backup of your database from PostgreSQL 8.3? The 8.3 databases need to be backed up and restore into 8.4, the database will not upgrade along with your installation from 8.3.x to 8.4.x.

I also tried to install the most recent postgreSQL 8.4 and get to the screen that prompts me for my password (which I've forgotten by now). I did not uninstall the previous postgreSQL yet.

Any suggestions for how to procede from here?

Harpo: If you uninstall 8.4 and reinstall 8.3 it should pick your database back up, then you can back up your database, uninstall 8.3, install 8.4 and restore from the backup and everything should work properly.

Hi, Kraada. I backed up my database, then uninstalled 8.3. When I run setup for 8.4, it comes to a screen that asks me to type (and retype) my password for "database superuser (postgres) and "service account (postgres)". I don't know my password for postgres (I tried my Pokertracker password, but no luck). I get the message that says "password specified was incorrect. Please entre the correct password for the postgres windows user account". How do I get my/a password?

Whoops - I think I have it figured out - I hadn't uninstalled service account part of 8.3. When I did that, it allowed me to install 8.4 and create a new password.
