upgrade postgres

Postby pkru » Wed May 21, 2008 5:46 pm

I am using PT2 with postgres 8.2, what is the simplest way to upgrade to postgres 8.3 for pt3 without afftecting pt2? I do not care if PT2 is on 8.3. Just basically want to know the simplest way to upgrade postgres to latest version. Is it as simple as just downloading the latest release from the postrgres site and installing? Or take PT3 with the postgres option and just tell it to install postgres?

Honestly, I would try to use PT3 w/the current version of postgres you have. Otherwise its kinda long and drawn out, but:

First you need to export your hands from PT2. Go to utilities -> Export hand history and select a directory to export to. Let it do its thing. Now uninstall postgresql by going to start -> settings -> control panel -> add/remove programs and select the postgresql application. Once done, go to start -> run... and type \Program FIles. Now find the folder labeled postgresql, right click -> delete.

Once done install pt3 with postgresql. Let it setup default (in fact, please follow the quick start guides). Once installed, go to the manual import tab in PT3 and click on "import from directory" and select where you exported your pt2 hands. You will have now updated your computer to the latest version of postgresql and ALSO have created a new database with your pt2 hands.
